Prekindergarten to 3rd Grade

The Shasta County Office of Education's mission is to support Shasta County schools and the children they teach.  

The California Department of Education states: "The early years of a child's life are very important for later health and development.  One of the main reasons is how fast the brain grows starting before birth and continuing into early childhood.  Although the brain continues to develop and change into adulthood, the first 8 years can build a foundation for future learning, health and life success."

The importance of early childhood learning is why the state is providing support to expand transitional kindergarten to include all 4-year-olds and strengthen the program coherence between Pre-Kindergarten to 3rd grade, known as P-3 alignment.

The Shasta County Office of Education is committed to providing training and support to schools and teachers as UPK and P-3 Alignment is implemented.
