Healing Trauma: American Indian Advisory

This work started as a  process to heal generational trauma, and has been led by our local Native tribal members, facilitated by the Shasta County Office of Education.

The American Indian Advisory was formed in 2019 with representatives from each tribe and many community partners, and some of the work that has been done includes: 

• Created lessons for grades 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9 centered around (and approved by) local tribes ( social science & history standards).
• Restorative Practices training
• Native Wellness Institute-Youth Leadership Training
• Partnering with Local Indians for Education to provide cultural and family engagement activities
• Native Community Connect Coordinators support students & families with resources
• Land acknowledgement maps were created and offered to the community
