STEM

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) instruction in K-12 education encompasses a comprehensive approach to teaching that integrates these four disciplines into a cohesive learning framework. It aims to engage students in hands-on, inquiry-based activities that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. By connecting theoretical concepts to real-world applications, STEM education encourages students to explore scientific principles, understand technological advancements, design engineering solutions, and apply mathematical reasoning. This interdisciplinary approach not only enhances academic performance but also prepares students for future careers in a rapidly evolving job market that increasingly values STEM competencies.

In K-12 settings, STEM instruction often involves project-based learning, where students work on complex problems or challenges that require them to apply knowledge from multiple subjects. Educators use various teaching strategies, including interactive simulations, group collaborations, and field trips to enhance engagement and understanding. Additionally, STEM instruction promotes an inclusive environment that encourages diverse perspectives and fosters creativity. As schools continue to prioritize STEM education, they aim to equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in an interconnected world, inspire innovation, and cultivate a lifelong passion for learning in science and technology.

STEM CAREER DAY

Originally founded by Shasta COE and the North State STEM Career Day Committee volunteers, made possible by generous donations from community partners, this regional event fosters our business community's support and resources, encouraging North State students to prepare for and pursue career opportunities in STEM fields. This annual "Ignite Opportunity" is a one-day event. This event is open to all 9th grade students from Trinity, Tehama, Siskiyou, Shasta, Plumas, Modoc, Lassen, Glenn and Butte counties. Regardless of their specific interests, your students will benefit from this action packed day of:

  • Dynamic, engaging presentations from professionals working in STEM fields in the North State
  • Real-world anecdotes and advice about the educational paths to STEM career opportunities in our area and beyond
  • Direct access to and interaction with local professionals and college students
  • Challenging STEM activity fostering collaboration and engineering practices
  • Tools to help them plan and prepare for work, post-secondary education and more!

Women in STEM Conference

March 29, 2025 @ Shasta High School

Watch for details and registration information at https://aauwredding.org/women-in-stem-2/

We have fantastic news to share—Hour of Code is back, and we’re on a mission to make students’ invisible dreams visible through computer science.

While we all know the importance of computer science, this year’s theme, "Make The Invisible Visible," is about those thrilling moments when students make real-world connections between computer science and the things they love—whether it’s music, sports, fashion, or games. When students engage with the things they love, they discover they can excel at what once seemed impossible. That’s where the magic happens—where the invisible becomes visible.

In 2023, teachers like you made 183.4 million Hours of Code possible worldwide, introducing many children to computer science for the first time. You can inspire even more students this year by registering your Hour of Code event during Computer Science Education Week. Mark your calendars for December 9th to 15th, and get ready for an exciting and impactful week of learning and discovery!

Ready to ignite your students' passions? Register your event now and follow our step-by-step guide to prepare for Hour of Code. You'll find information on new and updated activities, along with materials to inspire your students!

CREEC North Nature's Narrative

Interweaving Language Arts, Socioemotional Learning, and Climate Science with Environmental Literacy

The grant has these focal points:

  • Environmental education
  • Integration of ELA with science and nature instruction
  • Social-emotional learning
  • Climate resilience

Much value come from the professional learning itself, and busy teachers deserve more. At the end of the school year, you will receive an $800 stipend and about $100 in nature exploration supplies (i.g. resource books, magnifiers, USB microscopes, black lights, etc).

We are full for the 2024-25 school year, but return here in the spring of 2025 for applications for Cohort 2!
