  • Building Thinking Classrooms (Part 1) - Dive into the 14 BTC research based strategies to help all students engage in collaborative problem solving.  Part 1 focuses on 8 key practices in Chapters 1-3, 5,6, 8, 9 & 10

  • Building Thinking Classrooms (Part 2) - Continue your implementation of BTC by diving into the remaining 6 practices.

  • Math Framework Implementation & Visioning - Discover the latest updates in the CA Mathematics Framework! Join our three-day series to explore, discuss, and plan for implementing the innovative strategies, practices, and routines outlined in the new framework.

  • The 5 Practices in Practice: Successfully Orchestrating Mathematical Discussions in Your Classroom - Facilitating productive discussions about mathematics is very challenging for any teacher. In this course we will study the practices outlined in the book The 5 Practices in Practice by Margaret (Peg) Smith to learn how to facilitate a purposeful and meaningful math discussion around engaging math tasks. Using the 5 Practices is a great way to engage ALL students and is highly beneficial for your students performing below grade level as well.

California Math Framework 2023: Empowering Students Through Deeper Learning

The 2023 California Math Framework emphasizes an inclusive and equitable approach to mathematics education, designed to engage all students in meaningful learning. Major ideas include:

  • Focus on Problem-Solving and Reasoning: Encouraging students to explore mathematical concepts through real-world problems and authentic questions.

  • Equity and Access: Prioritizing instructional practices that support diverse learners, ensuring that every student can succeed in math.

  • Mathematical Connections: Integrating concepts across grade levels and subjects, fostering a deeper understanding of how math relates to the world.

  • Collaborative Learning: Promoting student discourse and group work to develop critical thinking and communication skills.

  • Teacher Empowerment: Providing educators with resources and strategies to create thinking classrooms and support effective, student-centered instruction.

Shasta County Office of Education is currently offering an introduction to the framework implementation offered twice for math educators and will be helping districts create their vision for mathematics education in the piloting and selection of the new CA math curriculum scheduled to be available for review beginning in November 2025.
