California Math Framework 2023: Empowering Students Through Deeper Learning
The 2023 California Math Framework emphasizes an inclusive and equitable approach to mathematics education, designed to engage all students in meaningful learning. Major ideas include:
-
Focus on Problem-Solving and Reasoning: Encouraging students to explore mathematical concepts through real-world problems and authentic questions.
-
Equity and Access: Prioritizing instructional practices that support diverse learners, ensuring that every student can succeed in math.
-
Mathematical Connections: Integrating concepts across grade levels and subjects, fostering a deeper understanding of how math relates to the world.
-
Collaborative Learning: Promoting student discourse and group work to develop critical thinking and communication skills.
-
Teacher Empowerment: Providing educators with resources and strategies to create thinking classrooms and support effective, student-centered instruction.
Shasta County Office of Education is currently offering an introduction to the framework implementation offered twice for math educators and will be helping districts create their vision for mathematics education in the piloting and selection of the new CA math curriculum scheduled to be available for review beginning in November 2025.
